A lubricant that can handle automotive noise and vibration
Compared to the past, today's cars are designed to provide a smoother ride and a quieter interior environment. Because of this, people are now paying more attention to the faint noises and slight rattles that were not noticed before.
Noise, vibration and vibration roughness (NVH) and humming, creaking and rattling (BSR) can be emitted by many internal and external components. These sources may include rubber in coatings, metal in plastics, and friction between leather and leather or from engines.
Norbert ® performance lubricants are ideal for addressing NVH and BSR because they:
- Easily apply by spraying or brushing
- Unaffected by harsh conditions such as rain, snow, ice, salt, dust, and dirt
- Resistant to fuel, coolant, brake fluid and wash fluid
- Low evaporation or no characteristic change occurs throughout the life cycle of the vehicle
- Compatible with all other substances and surfaces that may come into contact
Meeting the expectations of drivers and passengers
Driven by customer demand, automakers have been trying to reduce NVH and BSR for years through a variety of passive design techniques and active technical features.
Noise and vibration reduction are major considerations for new car buyers - especially with the advent of EVs (electric vehicles) - and tend to influence buyers' perceptions of a car's quality and value. Beyond the obvious annoyance, there are many important reasons why car buyers want a quiet, smooth-driving car.
These include:
- Low and intermediate frequency noise can greatly cause driving fatigue
- High-frequency noise can limit people's ability to hear conversations in their cars
- Noise can cause headaches, stress and irritability
- Vibration can cause irritability and discomfort

Where is Norbert ® automotive lubricant suitable for?
Norbert ® PFPE lubricants are generally divided into two categories in automotive applications:
Under the hood
Due to the aerodynamic requirements for tighter packaging and the replacement of larger engines with smaller turbocharged and supercharged engines to improve fuel efficiency, the temperature under the hood is gradually increasing. With ambient temperatures under the hood exceeding 120C (248F), automotive applications requiring PFPE lubricants are also increasing, including:
- Overspeed decoupler of alternator drive wheel
- Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) Tensioners and Idlers
- Throttle body bearing
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve
- Intake Manifold Seals and Actuators
- Fan clutch bearing
- Fuel System Emission Control Valve
- Electric cooling system pumps and valves
- Ignition system plug cap
Automobile interior and exterior noise, vibration and acoustic roughness (NVH)
Norbert ® lubricants are a long-term and highly effective solution for eliminating hum, squeak and rattle (BSR) inside and outside the car compartment. These PFPE oils and greases effectively reduce noise from friction between surfaces, as well as noise from mechanical vibrations, without causing any material compatibility issues or generating harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Some applications include:
- Weatherstrips and elastomer seals
- Internal plastic, metal and leather surfaces
- Center Console Hinges and Latches
- Door and trunk latch systems
- Brake pedal assembly
- Seat installation (slide rail, headrest iron and lock)
- Electric switch
- Airbag spring
- exterior rearview mirror
- Suspension bushing
