What are industrial lubricants?
A properly composed lubricating oil can reduce mechanical friction and wear, similar to grease. From a pure chemical perspective, lubricating oil is mainly composed of two components:
- Base oil composition: It can be a single base oil or a mixture of multiple base oils, depending on the desired characteristics.
- Additives: The number and choice of additives vary, depending on the desired characteristics of the lubricating oil.
The advantages of lubricating oil
- Minimize friction and wear: The lubricating oil forms a stable fluid film to protect the surface of the friction body.
- Heat dissipation (cooling): The right lubricating oil can easily remove the frictional heat generated during the operation of the machine. Effective lubricating oil only produces slight decomposition under thermal load, which can achieve sustainable effect.
- Effective lubrication of hard-to-reach points: Lubricants have good flow characteristics (viscosity). This means they can reach hard-to-reach lubrication points, such as chains.
- Helps reduce residues: One of the special properties of effective lubricants is their ability to break down contaminants from high temperatures and high loads. Lubricants themselves do not easily form residues and are also well-suited for such situations.
